Wanda Victoria Purviance, 99, passed away peacefully at her home in St. Peters, Mo., with her family and beloved dog "Tyson" nearby, after five days of hospice care.

Her life spanned just shy of the century mark and was shaped by the Great Depression and World War II. During her life she bore witness to monumental change from technological achievements and social advancement.

Born the former Wanda Victoria Elwood at the old Newt and Fannie Adams Place in rural Pike County, MO, she was the daughter of Mack Sylvester Elwood and Victoria Elizabeth Hanson.

Wanda was a woman of many interests. She was a poet, chronicler of family history, an avid collector of antiques and old books, and a matriarch to a loving and extended family. As the eldest granddaughter of Frank and Sadie Hanson, she enjoyed the privilege of being referred to as "Aunt Wanda" by most of many cousins.

Wanda's early years of schooling took place at Concord, Vannoy and Tuscumba schools in rural Missouri. She continued schooling in California after her family moved there for work during the depression, attending Coalinga High and eventually graduating from Grant Union High School in Sacramento.

After returning to Missouri, Wanda worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell in St. Louis and graduated from Rubicam Business School. She then enjoyed a career as a secretary around the city. Later, she was primarily a homemaker, raising four boys, and helped her husband Lloyd run Easy Play Tennis Courts.

On October 1, 1941 she was wed to Robert Allen Murphy in Carson City, Nev. They divorced in May 1944. She then married Lloyd Dorris Eaton on July 6, 1947 in Bowling Green, MO. He died June 14, 1986. Her last marriage was to Richard Allen Purviance whom she married on November 5, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nev. He died August 19, 2012.

Wanda was a member of Calvary Church in St. Peters, and a member of the Calvary ENCORE 50+ Adult Ministry.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Wanda was preceded in death by a son Gregory Scott Eaton and a brother Mack John Elwood III.

Left to mourn her passing are three sons, Daniel Allen (Sharon) Murphy of Columbia, IL, Terry LaMont (Ardyth) Eaton of Lyman, Wyo., and Kenton Lloyd (Pamela) Eaton of St. Louis, MO. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Starla Oxford-Grisham (Raymond), Michael Colin Murphy, and Rachel Colleen Victoria Azzara (Blaise III); also the following great-grandchildren: Blaise Azzara IV, Zoe Azzara, Heath Patterson, Kyle Patterson, Lacy Poole, Tiffany Hovland, Annette Johnson, and Terry Jo Oxford. Beloved Great-Great Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and friend to all.

A memorial service will be held at the Calvary Church followed by a graveside service at Concord Cemetery near Bowling Green, Mo. at a later date.

EDWARDSVILLE - Joseph Raynor (Mike) Considine, 52, of 215 Hickory St., assistant general freight agent for the Illinois Terminal Railroad, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Missouri-Pacific Hospital, St. Louis, where he had been a patient five months.

Born Sept. 26, 1906, at Belleville, he was the son of the late John and Bertha Gantner Considine. He was married Aug. 29, 1929 to Dorothy Lasbury, who survives, together with a son and three daughters: John R. , Sharon Anne and Carolyn Considine, all of Edwardsville and Mrs. James A. Carr, Richmond, Va.

Also survivng are three sisters, Mr.s Porter Parker and Mrs. Walter Dorr, both of Edwardsville, and Mrs. Darrell Blodgett, Wheaton, Ill., and two grandchildren.

He was a member of St. John's Methodist Church.

Funeral series are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Straube Funeral Home in charge o the Rev. Clyde Funkhouser, pastor of St. John's Methodist Church, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville. Friends may calla t the funeral home after 5 p.m. Thursday.

Joseph married Dorothy Vernon Lasbury on 29 Aug 1929 in Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, USA. Dorothy (daughter of Edwin Woodside Lasbury and Alice Josephine McFetridge) was born on 11 May 1907 in Alton, Madison, Illinois, USA; died on 19 Jan 1977 in Alton, Madison, Illinois, USA; was buried in Belleville, St. Clair, Illinois, USA. Mrs. Dorothy Considine, 69, of 681 Chapman St. died this morning in Oliver C. Anderson Hospital.

She was born on May 11, 1907, in Wood River, a daughter of the late Edwin Lasbury and Alice McFetridge Lasbury, who survives. She was married in August 1929 to Joseph Considine. He died in 1958.

A son, John R. Considine of Edwardsville, survives as do daughters, Mrs. James (Mary Kay) Carr of Richmond, Va., Carolyn Sue Considine of St. Louis and Mrs. Daniel (Sharon) Murphy of Edwardsville, and four grandchildren, brothers, Lester Lasbury of Wood River and William Lasbury of Wheeling, W. Va., and sisters, Mrs. Lucian (Mildred) Evans of Wilmington, Del., Mrs. Howard (Bea) Huber of Meadowbrook Mrs. Harold (Ada) Goodman of East Alton and Mrs. Joe (Alice) Dvorchak of Wood River, also survive.

Mrs. Considine was a member of St. John's Methodist Church.

Visitation will be in the Pletcher Funeral Home from 7 to 9p.m. Thursday. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, with the Rev. William Lewis of St. John's Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Belleville.

ALICE JOSEPHINE LASBURY, 97, who with her husband and two sons, moved from Alton to Wood River about the turn of the century when "there wasnt' anything here except watermellon patches and stickers (sandburrs)", died at 4:55 p.m. Monday at Madison County Nursting Home in Edwardsville.

During a celebration of her 90th birthday, the nonagenarian recalled, "There wasn't even a grocery store in Wood River-just our house and a little bitty saloon where the men could get their beer."

It was about 18 months before there were any more people in Wood River, she said.

Born in Alton, a daughter of the late James and Mary (Beide) McFetridge, she married Edwin W. Lasbury in 1904 in St. Louis. He died February, 1939.

Mrs. Lasbury moved from Wood River in 1963 to become the second resident at the Olin Home in East Alton.

Surviving are two sons, Lester of Wood River and William K. of Wheeling, W. Va.; three daughters, Alice Dvorchak of Wood River, Ada Goodman of East Alton, and Mildred Evans of Wilmington, Del.; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Marks Mortuary, where prayer service will be read at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with the Rev. William Kekeisen as celebrant, and burial will be in Valley View Cemetery at Edwardsville.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Considine and Beatrice Huber and two sons, Charles and Thomas Lasbury.

Madison County Nursing Home has been named as a memorial.
