CAMDEN - Joshua Coffin Lasbury, 77, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, after a brief illness at Pen Bay Medical Center. He was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Hartford, Conn., son of Ralph Cherokee and Cecelia Chase Lasbury.
He attended Kingswood School and Hebron Academy, and University of Connecticut. From 1954 to 1958, he served in the U.S. Army, and was employed for many years in sales at various manufacturing companies from 1960 to 1984, including Clapp & Treat, West Hartford, Conn. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gun collecting.
Surviving are his four children, Ashley A. Lasbury of Portland, Amelia L. Bittner and her husband, Daniel, Victoria L. Lasbury and her husband, Jamie R. Bloomquist, and Jessica C. Wheeler and her husband, Adam, all of Camden; sister, Abigail Fitzgerald and her husband, John, of Camden; brother, R. Chase Lasbury and his wife, Nan, of Winter Park, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Cate, Nick, Samantha, Eleanor, Joshua, Margaret, Mason, Leah, Gabriel and Evelyn; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Katherine Lasbury; sister, Cela Johnson; and brother, Benjamin L. Lasbury.
A memorial gathering was held Oct. 10. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. CAMDEN - Ralph Chase Lasbury was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He passed away on January 17, 2022 with family by his side at the age of 91, although Chase would tell you he was in his 92nd year.
He was born to Ralph Chesick Lasbury and Cecilia Chase Lasbury in Hartford, Connecticut on June 6, 1930. After graduating from Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, he attended Colby College in Waterville. It was at Colby that Chase met his beloved wife, Sally Nan Lasbury. Nan and Chase were married in Tarrytown, New York on July 12, 1952.
Chase had a long and successful career with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance and retired as a general agent of the company in Rochester, New York. Through his job at Northwestern, he and his family lived many places across the United States including, Hartford and Wilton, Connecticut, Milwaukie, Wisconsin, Rochester, New York, and Winter Park, Florida, finally settling in Camden in 1993, where his grandparents had established a foothold back in 1896. Chase also served as president of Chase Groves Incorporated, a family orange grove and real estate business from 1985-2013. He enjoyed being a grove owner often taking family to visit the oranges and bounce around in his car through the orange trees.
Chase loved being active and particularly enjoyed playing tennis, golf, skiing, boating and hiking. He loved the time he had with family and friends often regaling all with tales of family and local history. Chase seemed to know a little bit of everything about everyone and every place. He couldn't walk into Megunticook Market, Mariner's Restaurant, Rotary, Megunticook Golf Club, Watershed Association, or the transfer station without meeting a person he knew or making a new friend. He'd always stop and share a story and a laugh with all he met. Chase had a passion for people and one could understand this by the way he listened (as best as his hearing allowed) and spoke intently to everyone he met.
Chase and Nan shared many passions. They had such a competitive nature on the tennis court and the golf course that they were much better suited as opponents rather than partners. However, in life they were nothing but partners to one another through thick and thin. Chase and Nan were married 68 years, argued daily and loved dearly.
In January 2021, Chase lost the love of his life. Since Nan's passing Chase blessed his family and friends with 322 bonus days and spent them having meals with family and friends, attending his grandson's every lacrosse game across the state of Maine, and enjoying a final summer by the lake with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be severely missed.
Chase is survived by his daughters, Debbie, Shauna and Becky; grandchildren, Kimberly (Evan), Alisha, Emilee, Willy and Theo; great grandchildren: Joshua, Mckaylah, Serenity, Harrison and Justus; son-in-law Chris Cummings; extra daughter Mary Clewet; his faithful companion Munchkin who curled up in his lap until the end; his sister, Abigail Lasbury Fitzgerald; and too many nieces and nephews to list.
He was predeceased by daughter Paige, and son, Ricky. His family takes great comfort in the thought of his homecoming with his beloved Nan, and children Ricky and Paige.

Camden - Sally Nan Lasbury was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She passed away at the age of 89 Jan. 28, 2021, with her husband and eldest daughter by her side. She was the daughter of Howard and Margaret Murray, of Toledo, Ohio, born on Oct. 15, 1931. After graduating as valedictorian from Tarrytown High School, she attended Colby College in Waterville. It was at Colby College that she met her husband, R. Chase Lasbury.
Nan and Chase were married in Tarrytown, N.Y. July 12, 1952. Through her husband's career they lived in many places across the U.S. but always felt most at home in Maine.
Nan loved spending time on the golf course, tennis court, ski mountain and at her sewing machine, creating crafts. She cherished being with her family and friends, sharing stories and laughter. She served on many boards and committees in her local communities, including the Penobscot Bay YMCA, United Midcoast Charities, the First Congregational Church of Camden, and Megunticook Golf Club.
Chase and Nan shared a passion for sports and enjoyed playing tennis, golf and skiing together. They also loved traveling and enjoyed visiting many places across the globe. In their younger days, they spent warm summers sailing Penobscot Bay and cruising Lake Megunticook. Later in life, they returned to Camden as full-time residents. Chase and Nan had a 68-year-long love story punctuated with laughter, love, and loss.
Nan's daughters were loved by her soft side but raised by her hard edges to become the women they are today. They will remember her for her love, her advice, the clothing and gifts sewn by hand, reminders to fix their hair or to put on lipstick, and the dreaded tissue she always had rolled up in her sleeve to wipe away tears or dirt from their faces. All others will remember her for her hot pink lipstick that left traces of kisses on all the people she loved.
She will be sorely missed by her husband of 68 years, Chase Lasbury; daughters, Debbie, Shauna and Becky; grandchildren, Kimberly (Evan), Alisha, Emilee, Willy and Theo; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Mckaylah, Serenity, Harrison and Justus; son-in-law Chris Cummings and daughter from another mother, Mary Clewet; sister-in-law, Abigail Fitzgerald and her husband, John; and her beloved puppy, Munchkin, who snuggled with her until the end.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Paige, and son, Ricky, whom we believe are waiting at the gates of heaven to welcome her home.

Captain Berry L. Meaux, USCG (Ret), age 82, longtime Oak Harbor resident, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 14, 2010, following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Berry survived almost four years after surgery for pancreatic cancer.
Berry was born February 25, 1928, at Quincy, IL, to John D. and Mary Lasbury Meaux. The family lived in Pike County, IL until 1937 when they moved to Lockport and then to Joliet, IL. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in July 1945 and went through boot camp in Brooklyn, NY. He was transferred to the Coast Guard Academy Prep School, Groton, CT, until his discharge in June 1946.
In July 1946 he entered the United States Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree, and was commissioned an Ensign in June 1950. On June 3, 1950, he married Luella Ferguson. During the Korean War he was stationed on the cutter Yocona, Eureka, CA. After a year, he was transferred to the destroyer escort Lowe, Long Beach, CA. This was followed by a one year tour as Commanding Officer of the CG Loran Station, Biorka Island, Alaska. He then served a three year tour as Executive Officer on the cutter Aurora in Savannah, GA.
In 1957 he was assigned as Press Officer, Public Information Division, Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, DC. In 1958 he competed with the CG National pistol team at the National Matches, Camp Perry, OH. In January 1960 while on temporary assignment to the icebreaker Eastwind on Deepfreeze 60, while en route to McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, he and a Navy oceanographer were the first persons to land by Eastwind's helicopter on tiny Scott Island, south of the Antarctic Circle.
In 1961 he served two years as commanding officer, buoy tender Planetree. The cutter serviced aids to navigation in the Hawaiian Islands and the central and western Pacific Ocean. In 1967 he returned to Hawaii as commanding officer of the high endurance cutter Chautauqua assigned to ocean station duties between Midway Island and Japan. He had previously served four years in the 13th CG District Office, Seattle, WA, as Military Readiness Officer.
He reported in September 1969 for his last assignment in the Public Affairs Division, CG Headquarters, Washington, DC. In July 1974 he retired as a Captain and was the chief of the division at that time.
Captain Meaux and his wife moved to Oak Harbor in November 1974. He was a volunteer fireman for four years at the Silver Lake Fire Station, and a member of the Navy Flying Club and Gallery Golf Course for several years. He was also a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church and active in the Cursillo Movement and the Kairos Prison Ministry at Monroe State Prison
Meaux was a member of the Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association. He was an active member of the Whidbey Island Genealogical Searchers and the Whidbey Playhouse for many years. While a Playhouse member, he appeared on stage in eighteen plays and was on the production staff for fourteen other shows. He also constructed over ninety flats, platforms and stair units for sets used in playhouse productions. In 1997 he was named Playhouse Volunteer of the Year. He was a Life Member of the Military Officer's Association, the National Rifle Association and the Law Enforcement Alliance of America.
Berry is survived by his wife, Luella F. Meaux, two children and their spouses, Allan and Letta Meaux; Janis and Richard Leslie, all of Oak Harbor; and son, Wayne Meaux of Sandpoint, ID; also, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, November 20, 2010, 11:00 a.m., at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 555 SE Regatta Dr., Rev. Paul Orritt officiating.
Military Honors will be presented under the auspices of the United States Coast Guard Seattle Area Honor Guard.

CAROLYN LASBURY , daughter of Dr Vincent Lasbury and Alice Stoner Lasbury, was born in Chicago, Ill. November 2, 1903, and departed this life in the same city, April 28, 1931 after a short illness, aged 27 years 5 months and 26 days.
She was buried in Oakwood cemetery, Chicago, Thursday afternoon April 30, according to the rites of the Episcopal church, of which she was a member. She was a charming young woman and much loved by all who knew her.

Cecil Redvers Melhuish died on the SS Empire Citizen on 3rd February 1941 at the age of 38. The SS Empire Citizen departed Liverpool as part of convoy OB 279 to Sierra Leone and Burma and was sunk by the German submarine U-107 in the Atlantic Ocean 500 miles north west of the British Isles. A total of 66 crew and 12 passengers were lost.

CAMDEN (Dec 27): Cecilia "Cela" Lasbury Johnson, 75, of Winterpark, FL and a life-long summer resident of Camden, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006 at the Anderson Inn in Camden surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Rockland, ME on Aug. 30, 1931, she was the daughter of Ralph C. and Cecilia (Chase) Lasbury and the granddaughter of Joshua C. and Mary Justice (Lee) Chase. Cecilia graduated from Milton Academy in Milton, MA and attended Colby College in Waterville, ME and Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. Cecilia was a former board member of Chase Groves (now Isleworth) in Windemere, FL and former board member of the Cornell Fine Art Museum in Winter Park, FL. She was also a member of the Megunticook Golf Club in Rockport and a member of the Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park, FL. Cecilia was a talented water colorist, gardener and antique enthusiast. She was also an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing bridge. Cecilia will always be appreciated for her great wit and unfailing sense of humor. Her family will remember her as a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Surviving are her three children, Dan Johnson of Merritt Island, FL; Joshua Johnson of Cape Haze, FL; and daughter Neall Johnson and her husband, Steve, of Wilmot, NH; five grandchildren, Matthew Gorevan; Hannah Johnson; Samuel Johnson, Cory Johnson and Chase Johnson; one sister, Abigail Fitzgerald of Camden, ME; two brothers, R. Chase Lasbury of Camden & Winter Park, FL; Joshua "Jock" Lasbury of Camden; 10 nieces and nephews; and her former husband of 32 years, Richard A. Johnson of Merritt Island, FL. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Benjamin Lee Lasbury.
The family suggests memorial donations be made in her memory to Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice, 170 Pleasant Street, Rockland, ME 04841 or to the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History, Special Collections, Smathers Libraries, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL 32611.
A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 at the Knowles Chapel at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. A Memorial Gathering will be held in Camden, ME June 30th 2007 and announced during the early summer of 2007.
