POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a homeless man died in hospital just hours after being assaulted by a group of youths.
Richard Jennings, 39, died of natural causes and the death is not being treated as suspicious, but police are still keen to hear from anyone who saw the incident on Saturday, June 28, near the Fitzhammon embankment and Wood Street bridge area of Cardiff city centre.
Mr Jennings was assaulted at around 2pm and he was taken to the University Hospital of Wales by ambulance. He was later released and returned to the same area near to Wood Street bridge.
Later that evening at around 8pm a member of the public called another ambulance and Mr Jennings was readmitted into hospital. He died in hospital on Tuesday, July 1.
A Home Office post mortem concluded that Mr Jennings died of natural causes but detectives are still investigating the assault on Mr Jennings.
