- Fred Whittock of Holmedene, Paulton Road, Midsomer Norton who was last seen alive on the 11 March 1947 and whose dead body was found 11 March 1947 at the age of 60 at Thickett Mead, Midsomer Norton giving probate to Annie Keziah Whittock his widow and Edwin George Whittock carpenter and joiner. He was buried St John the Baptist, Midsomer Norton.
An inquest was held and Fred's body was found lying on the highway near the railway bridge at Thicket Mead on 11 March. Evidence of identification was given by Edwin George Whittock (a son) who said his father was a stone mason and bricklayer. About 1943 or 1944 he developed heart trouble. He was attended by Dr Widgery of Midsomer Norton who warned him not to do any heavy work. He was found by William Edwin Bowell who saw something lying in the side of the road as he was driving his van. When he got out he found the man and there was a bag of coal lying nearby. William took Fred to Paulton Hospital.
Dr Widgery gave evidence saying Fred was suffering from Angina Pectoris. He last saw Fred October 14 when he told Fred he must not do any heavy work. He formed the opinion that Fred died from syncope due to coronony thombosis (a blood clot in the arteries of the heart). He also said death was probably accelerated by deceased carrying an undue wight.
A Coroner recorded a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
