- Frederick Charles Davidge died 26 February 1913 Vinegar Down Quarry.
When working in the quarry alone he, was trying by means of a winch and rope to pull out a prop set to support the roof of a chamber cut out of the solid rock. After several attempts he went into the chamber, and whilst there the roof over the whole area of the chamber, some 18 feet by 15 feet, fell, and he was killed. His son had by chance gone into the quarry to speak to him on a private matter and witnessed the whole of the operations in regard to the removal of the prop: there was thus no room for doubt as to what he had been doing when he met his death.
