After the tragic fire of this vessel on May 10, 1878, which cost many lives, she was salved, refitted and returned to trans-Atlantic service. Triple expansion engines installed in 1897. Reduced to two masts. Served in various North Atlantic routes. Sold to Spanish owners in 1920, and used as a hulk at Vigo. Sister ship: Polynesian.
