The Ancestors of Charles Edwin Lasbury

CHARLES EDWIN LASBURY’S PARENTS -
EDWIN WOODSIDE LASBURY — ALICE JOSEPHINE McFETRIDGE

Edwin C. Lasbury’s father was Edwin Woodside Lasbury (1878 - February 8, 1938) and his mother was Alice Josephine McFetridge (1884 — 1981). They were married in 1904 in St. Louis, Missouri in the home of a minister. Edwin Woodside Lasbury was born in Bowling Green, Missouri and was a stillman for Standard Oil Company, a company he worked for thirty years. He raised his family in Wood River, Illinois. At one point, he was a deputy sheriff and carried a gun taken by the police during a robbery. He died of a heart attack on the day he was to receive a gold pin signifying 30 years services with the Standard Oil Company. He was very interested in Masonic work and was a thirty—second degree Mason. Alice Josephine McFetridge Lasbury lived to be 97. She had all nine of her children at home. Before her marriage she worked at Western Cartridge sorting shells and at the Glass Works filling cases with containers. They did a lot of family things; picnics, dances.

CHARLES EDWIN LASBURY’S GRANDPARENTS - LASBURY
THOMAS LASBIJRY SR. - CATHERINE BEATRICE FREEMAN

Edwin Woodside Lasbury’s father was Thomas Lasbury Sr. He was born in London, England January 22, 1859. He died February 15, 1933. He worked at Stephens Lithographing and Engraving Company. He was married to Catherine Beatrice Freeman on October 16, 1882 in Bowling Green, Missouri, and they lived in St. Louis, Missouri when they were married. Edwin Woodside Lasbury’s mother was Catherine Beatrice Freeman. She was also born In London, England October 3, 1865. She died November 22, 1947. They raised seven children. She wrote many poems and gave readings. Some of her poems were publicized in local newspapers. We visited the Lasbury’s in St. Louis. The grandmother and grandfather Lasbury came to the United States from England. Grandmother (Catherine Beatrice) wore lots of jewelry. They were all nice, fine housekeepers. She wrote poems and sent them to the Queen of England and received a response from the people who write for the Queen. One day some men came to see Grandmother in St. Louis to inquire if she was English and eligible to vote. She had voted for years, so she said — I don’t need you political tricksters coming here and I don’t need a ride to the poles.

CHARLES EDWIN LASBURY’S GRANDPARENTS - MCFETRIDGE
JIM MCFETRIDGE — MARY BIDIE

Alice Josephine McFetridge’s father was Jim McFetridge and her mother was Mary Beide. She died when the children were young and they were farmed out to “aunts” in Forsterburg. There were three children in the family. Jim McFetridge remarried a lady with the last name of Doan.

CHARLES FREEMAN - ELIZA EMMA READ

Catherine Beatrice Freeman’s father was Charles Freeman, born September 8, 1842 in London, England. Her mother was Eliza Emma Read also born in England. They were married December 25, 1861 in the Parish of St. Thomas, Portman Square, County of Middlesex, England. They owned a bakery in Kirshes Meat Market in Alton, Illinois around 1900. They arrived from England in Chicago three days before the great Chicago fire. They then settled in Louisiana, Missouri. They arrived in Boston October 2, 1871 on the S. S. Calabria. They had three children,

THOMAS LASBURY - EMMA WALL WHITE

Thomas Lasbury’ father was Thomas Lasbury, born June 8, 1831 in Kensington, England. He died May 8, 1911 in Griggsville, Illinois. Thomas Lasbury’s mother was Emma Wall White, born April 30 1828 in Whetstone, England. She died December 5, 1909 Griggsville, Illinois. They were married May 16, 1858 in St. Pancras Church, Middlesex, England. They had four children. Thomas Lasbury landed in Quebec April 15, 1865. The day Lincoln was shot. His brother, John had arrived in 1852 landing in New Orleans. An older brother Benjamin had also come over. Benjamin could not make a living here and returned to England. Thomas’ wife Emma sailed the following year, 1866 landing on Christmas day, with Thomas Jr. , Mary and Twin.

Thomas Lasbury’s father’s name was Benjamin Lasbury, born In Kensington Terrace, England. His mother’s name was Mary Turnbull and they had four children.
