HomeStanley Edgell
Stanley Bertram Richard Edgell was born 1897 in Coleford, Somerset to Richard Albert Edgell and Elizabeth Young. Richard Albert Edgell was a colaminer so it must have been natural for Stanley to follow in his footsteps. Stanley was working at the age of 14 as a “Colliery Labourer Above Ground” at the coal mine in Coleford, as seen in the 1911 census.

Stanley joined the army to fight for his country and became a Guradsman (Service Number 26149) in the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier Guards.

He was killed in action in France on 27th March 1918, at the age of 21.

Stanley Bertram Richard Edgell is buried in Plot VI. F. 14. of Bucquoy Road Military Cemetery, Ficheux, Departement du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.
