- George Dyson died aboard the SS Lorient and is commemorated at Tower Hill Memorial.
On 4 May 1943 the Lorient (Master Walter John Manley), a straggler from convoy ONS-5 , was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-125 south of Cape Farewell. The master, 40 crew members and five gunners were lost.
