Remembering Les Durham

Lasbury Family History Posted on 22nd September 2025 by Author25th January 2026

Leslie Durham was born 25 Nov 1945 West Molesey, Surrey to John Stanley Durham & Grace Ruby Gay. After his university studies in the late 1960’s he toured Europe, stopped in Northern Italy and decided to stay.

About 25 years ago Les made contact because he had discovered some Lasbury individuals in his ancestry. His 2nd great grandmother was Sabina Lasbury born 1812 in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, daughter of John Lasbury & Leah Harvey.

My own Lasbury ancestors are also from Bradford on Avon, from the same period, so we both worked hard to discover any links between our families. Unfortunately the records from that period are scarce and we could find nothing to prove a link.

When DNA became available we both took a test and the results surprised us – there was no link. It could possibly be that the link is too far back to show up as a DNA match or perhaps there has been a little misbehaviour in one in one of our families and the stated father of a child was not the true father.

Les died 4th August 2024 in Turin, Italy.

Lasbury Family History Posted on 16th September 2025 by Author16th September 2025

Adam, a friend researcher has been on a long journey to identify his great great grandfather using DNA matches.

He has documented his efforts in a YouTube video explaining his research methods and his DNA analysis techniques. A very interesting video.

Family Historian Zoom Group

Lasbury Family History Posted on 17th March 2025 by Author17th March 2025

The Family Historian Zoom Group is a few years old and has become very popular for helping new and experienced users of Family Historian genealogy software.

It was started by Derek Heritage after he spent some time looking for video tutorials about the program but couldn’t find the help he wanted. The group members meet online, usually every 2 weeks, using the Zoom video conferencing service. This means users can meet on screen, share written comments and files, ask and answer each others questions and even demonstrate methods and features using the “screen share” features of Zoom.

The group membership has grown to well over a 100 members from places including UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.

Each meeting is recorded and the video archive is available to members with an index being produced with time markers to indicate where each topic was discussed/demonstrated.

There is a sub group for those users who use Family Historian with ORA (Online Repository Assistant).

The Family Historian Zoom Group website is https://fhzg.co.uk/ and they have a Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/familyhistorianzoomgroup
