- Mr Maggs was born at Welton, had lived in Coleford for 40 years and was licensee of The Rose and Crown for 27 years retiring 11 years before. He played for Welton Rovers A.F.C. from about 1911 onwards when the Rovers had a very successful team. He was a well known pigeon fancier and a member of the Welton Cub. The funeral was at Coleford Parish Church.
