In a sudden turnaround Ancestry has announced it will now provide support for Family Tree Maker. It is however selling the FTM software to MacKiev and they will continue to support and develop its features including the ability to synch with Ancestry. MacKiev have for the past 6 years managed the development of the Mac version and will now take over the Windows version.

A further surprise announcement is Ancestry’s intention to allow RootsMagic to synch with the Ancestry online systems allowing Ancestry searches, receiving hints and the ability to save your tree to Ancestry. RootsMagic users may have to wait until the end of 2016 for all of the features to become available.
