Centenary of Senghenydd Disaster
A Wales National Mining Memorial is to be unveiled at Senghenydd in the South Wales Valleys.
The ceremony on 14th October 2013 will mark the centenary of the UK’s worst mining disaster that took the lives of 440 men and boys who were working at the Universal Colliery at Senghenydd.
The memorial will feature a striking bronze statue, a memorial wall naming all those who died at both of the disasters, a landscape garden and a memorial walk which will feature tiles highlighting all the Welsh mining disasters recorded where 5 or more men lost their lives.
