Another Website Update
Almost 400 records have been added this week to the database bringing the total to 10,609. Sue Cahill is continuing her research into her ancestors who lived and worked in the Somerset Coalfield and the results can be seen in the records.
This latest update includes even more with the surnames Dando, Hobbs, Vranch and Seymour
I have seen a portrait of a Lasbury sailor online at a BBC website. It is showing the painting is at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. Is this a member of your family?

Thanks for your comment. I believe the painting to be of Joseph Sheppard Lasbury (1829 – 1912) so the painting would have been painted a little earlier than that suggested on the website. In 1861 the census shows him as a private in the Royal Navy and the 1901 census shows him as a Naval Pensioner. The title of the painting is “J. Lasbury, RMLI” and I think this means “Royal Marine Light Infantry” so this would fit with his description of being a private in the navy. I have contacted the BBC through their website suggesting the identity of the person in the painting. You can see Joseph Sheppard Lasbury at http://www.lasbury.com/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I3877&tree=tree1
